Is it all just a matter of luck?

The attainment of a personally authentic life is not anything to do with random chance, or with simply being lucky. If it were, in the long run all of us would be equally fulfilled (or unfulfilled!)  But we all know people who are consistently comfortable in their skins. Obviously this can’t be due to a permanent lucky streak - there has to be another explanation to account for what at first seems an inexplicable state of affairs. The real answer is simple – ‘luck’ is nothing else but the personal ability to see and to accurately evaluate, things, events, people and situations, as they really are. That is, to be in touch with, and totally aware of, what really is happening at any given moment.

We become our own lucky stars, not by chance, but by facing up to our own innate human qualities. We will have distinguished ourselves from the crowd of other potentially great actors in life’s theatre who are so immobilised by stage fright (or, in other words, the fear of being truly seen) that they continue to hold themselves back and consequentially pick up the bit-parts. Are they unlucky? No, just imperceptive!

So, how do become lucky stars? We can’t pick ourselves up by our own bootlaces. To start the process, we need to see ourselves reflected and totally accepted as we really are, by another human being who has highly developed qualities of non-judgmental and compassionate acceptance. If you find yourself to be consistently lucky, the chances are you’ve already gone through the process in your own childhood. If you’re not, trust your gut feelings to find the coach you will need to mirror your role in life and reflect your true, instinctively lucky, self.
